High Stile Reviews

Prior to our arrival at High Stile we were made aware of an issue via the cleaners and property owner and as a result a work around' was easily set up, we appreciated the communication. This was our second visit to this well maintained and comfortable cottage situated in a beautiful location, since our last visit the property had benefited from new carpet throughout. Subject to availability we will return one day
Timothy
Very cosy, relaxing and well maintained property.
We had a great few days there the location was fantastic and the cottage was cosy. Some areas could do with a deep clean! Overall the property was nice and we had a good time.
We had a great stay at the cottage which was ideally based for our planned walks, we even managed a lovely day on Dale Head in the snow. It was very wet with some floods but to be expexted at this time of year but were warm and cosy in the cottage. The only negatives were a 'welcome pack' for the fire which consisted of one log and a few sticks. I also managed to dent one side of my Transporter on the very narrow bridge.
I am very sorry to say that I was really disappointed with High Stile. This is the first Sykes cottage I have had an issue with. The cottage is very tired, it could do with some maintenance, a deep clean and decoration. The sofas were very dirty with marks as were the rugs and some of the walls. The oilcloth on the dining table was ripped in several places and the table mats were scored and dirty. I have photos, should you need to see them. The heating was very good and there was a good supply of hot water. The kitchen was very well equipped to cook for a family of six. Another issue which caused problems was a planned power outage on Thursday which left us with no electricity from 9.30 4.30. During this time along with lack of power, we had no heating or water. As this was a planned outage, I feel that you as agents should have been notified and in turn ourselves. Its very difficult entertaining three children in a dark cold cottage. The location of High Stile is lovely and well suited for a family of 67. With some updates and TLC it would have been wonderful.
Very disappointed with cottage took my family for a get together and to visit my brother. Lounge furniture very shabby and cushions. Bedding very poor. Afraid the whole place needs a face lift. The bench outside needs breaking up for firewood couldn't sit on it. The bathrooms and kitchen areas weren't to bad. We enjoyed the area around very .much would like to visit again but not this cottage unless it was smartend up.Facilities in cottage where good but spoilt by not enough tlc.
Despite being comfortable and homely, the property was a little tired and outdated. It would benefit from being redecorated throughout. The windows could do with some attention as they were difficult to open and close. The sound of the river outside was very relaxing. We all slept very well and loved the location.
This property is in an amazing position and very comfortable. No need to ever get in a car as there are spectacular walks in all directions and very regular bus services over to Buttermere and Keswick. The house is very homely and well equipped, the only reason for not giving the property 5 stars for facilities and maintenance is because of the problems we had with the water supply which was cut off twice during our stay. Back on within a few hours but nevertheless inconvenient. We have stayed in this property before and hope to do so again in the future because it is homely and in such a beautiful setting.
Lovely clean property in a beautiful quiet location. Good facilities, clean and good condition.
We had a fantastic stay at High Stile cottage. You couldn't get a better location, with mountain views all around and multiple great walks from the doorstep. The Yew Tree pub just a couple of minutes walk away is also a must visit the food is superb and it has a lovely riverside garden. The cottage itself was also great, plenty of space and it was nice to have a separate lounge and dining room. The kitchen was also well kitted out which made cooking at the property very easy. The boot room was also super useful! I am sure we will be back to this cottage.
My son and I very much enjoyed our stay at High Stile, the cottage is clean comfortable and has a very well equipped kitchen and is situated in a beautiful area of Borrowdale. Subject to availability we will return one day. The information regarding navigating the bridge leading to the cottage must be heeded.
Rachel
We loved the location of High Stile, beautiful walk to Rosthwaite down by the river straight from the cottage. Easy drive to Keswick and Buttermere. We stayed as four adults, two children and a dog and the house was a good size for us we didnt watch much TV as we were so busy exploring but if all six had wanted to watch TV it would have been very difficult. The property itself was pretty tired and not the cleanest we have stayed in. The listing says there is a communal outside area and I was very disappointed at how unusable it was as it is basically a picnic bench at the edge of what was a very full car park for all the cottages!
Eilidh
Our stay started on a low note it hadnt been cleaned when we arrived after the check in time. The cleaners arrived half an hour later with the reason that they were delayed due to car troubles. We were then not able to go into the property until 6pm. This is understandable, but should have been communicated to us earlier in the day so we didnt arrive and then need to wait around. The property was also not cleaned to a high standard, so we then needed to clean the kitchen and dining room. The rest of our stay was great, but we were disappointed by the start. A few things to note that we would have appreciated knowing before booking the turning into the property is very narrow and the ground is very uneven. Our estate car only just managed. A lower car would not be able to enter it without hitting the ground. There is also not sufficient parking along the lane as the residents from cottages 15 all park in the area beside this property number 6.
Anneke
Lovely cottage with great walks from the door. Good kitchen, upstairs a bit tired in places but adds to charm. Would be crowded if fully occupied particularly in sitting room.
A lovely spacious property, perfect for a stay in Borrowdale. Kitchen facilities are great and the fridge freezer is a generous size. It was disappointing that there were no toilet rolls in any of the bathrooms and a trip to Keswick was necessary. Only 2 dishwasher tablets were left. Had we been aware of the need to bring these items , time could have been saved. Otherwise this was a great place to stay and we would like to rebook.
